You have got to go hear this. My friend Amanda just gave me, (Well, I bought it because I want to support her), her CD yesterday. It's called The Only Bush I Trust Is My Own. How cool is that? I think if you're a liberal minded gal like me, you will definitely dig it! I am soooo impressed and proud of her for creating this and putting it together. As an artist I know how hard it is to just channel the art, let alone to package and promote it, and this is just so politically right on that I want to help her spread it around.
The only part that stings, but it's okay because I so understand it from the point of view of a woman who is raped, is the line "when a 21 year old girl gets raped she can't terminate her assailant's baby, she has to see him for a lifetime in her child's eyes and be a lady." I think most of you know that my birth mother was raped, (Or says she was, we're not sure, she's told a few different stories, but in her defense what child wants to believe they are the outcome of a rape), and gave me up for adoption. I have a lot of unresolved pain around this, a lot, but I'm a survivor -- big time, yep, but this brings up the flood of tears I've been pushing back for so many years.
Anyway I love this song and the ideas behind it and the great website Amanda put together where you click on the little animated Bush head on her puss to hear the song. Rock on girlfriend!
I have so much more I want to share with you today -- the usual stories about my life and daily travails but I don't want to lessen the impact of this. Go have a listen, buy the CD if you can because it's only seven bucks, and then come back and let me know what you think, please???
Love you guys/gals,
