| That's the Only Proof You Ever Had Sex? |
[19 Jul 2008|06:00pm] |

http://www.overheardinnewyork.com/archives/015477.html Creepy guy: I was in Japan and went on this rampage and slept with this woman who was 38 and had a kid and was married. Her husband had a bad back and couldn't have sex with her, but he was fully aware I was sleeping with her. I was kind of doing him a favor. Creepy guy's date: Did he watch? Creepy guy: No, but he wanted us to videotape it. So somewhere in Japan there's a video of me doing it with an older woman.

| How true! |

A CREED TO LIVE BY
- Don't undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others. It is because we are different that each of us is special.
- Don't set your goals by what other people deem important. Only you know what is best for you.
- Don't take for granted the things closest to your heart. Cling to them as you would your life, for without them life is meaningless.
- Don't let your life slip through your fingers by living in the past or for the future. By living your life one day at a time, you live all the days of your life.
- Don't give up when you still have something to give. Nothing is really over....... until the moment you stop trying.
- Don't be afraid to admit that you are less than perfect. It is this fragile thread that binds us to each other.
- Don't be afraid to encounter risks. It is by taking chances that we learn how to be brave.
- Don't shut love out of your life by saying it is impossible to find. The quickest way to receive love is to give love; the fastest was to lose love is to hold it too tightly; and the best way to keep love is to give it wings.
- Don't dismiss your dreams. To be without dreams is to be without hope; to be without hope is to be without purpose.
- Don't run through life so fast that you forget not only where you've been but also where you're going. Life is not a race but a journey to be savoured each step of the way.

| Save some boobies AND the environment |
[19 Jul 2008|05:34pm] |
Hi everyone!
By now you all know about the 3 day, 60 mile breast cancer walk and my pledge to raise $2,200 to fight breast cancer (if not, please click the posted link below). My new fundraising opportunity involves collecting used cell phones and ink cartridges and turning them in for cash for my fundraiser. If you have used cell phones or ink cartridges, please consider donating them to me.
This is a great way to help without having to reach in to your pocket. Save that money for rising gas and food prices and offer up your old phones and in cartridges!
Please note that I cannot accept ink cartridges that have already been re-used. I will be collecting these until the first week in September.
Thanks for your help! Tara

95º in the shade again, 31% humidity. And no AC. This time not by choice. Jon took the filter out this morning to clean it and now the control keypad is blank and won't respond. As in, it won't turn on the AC. Coincidence? Some kind of safety thing because the AC was running when the filter was removed? DOH! who knows. Fuses have been checked. Nothing seems to work. A costly weekend service call has been requested. So we wait. Ugh.
I have a headache.

I'm in the middle of making cupcakes to take to the BBQ we're going to this afternoon. It's our friend Keaton's BBQ out in Canby! That's nearly an hour away from us. We're taking Kate with us so we'll at least know her!

You Are a Very Green Driver

Saving the planet is probably pretty important to you.
If not, saving some money definitely is!
You don't use much gas when you drive, and you only drive when necessary.
Only if everyone else showed so much restraint!

I wasn't really planning to write today, but now I have a purring orange cat on my lap and I don't have the heart to move him. So why not update, eh, if it's something to do and keeps the cat happy?
I had my first chemistry test on Tuesday, and I think it went well enough -- though I'll find out for sure soon. Having lab twice a week is rough though. I eagerly await the day when I have no more required chemistry courses. I also eagerly await the end of this semester.
My experiments with animal-free cooking have been going well. I've learned that asparagus is a good thing. I also finally found the perfect dairy-free milk for me in almond milk. If someone had given me cereal with almond milk in it and told me it was skim milk I'd never be able to tell the difference. It's thin and relatively flavorless, neither of which are appealing words in and of themselves, but that's why I always liked skim. I don't know if I'll ever warm up entirely to soy cheese though. I have some mozzarella and cheddar slices made by Tofutti, and while the taste is fine the texture is off. I know I can quite easily give up milk, butter, and eggs, but cheese is going to be the hard one. Eating out is always going to be difficult too. Corey and I went out for Indian at Saffron last night, and even though they had things labeled as vegan or not on their menu I still didn't have an animal-free meal because I'm in love with naan. And... I snuck a piece of Corey's paneer. I love cheese, I really do. *sigh* I think I'm going to work on being vegan at home first and foremost, but it might be a while before I'm vegan outside of home.

I have a purple wall! Wooo-hooooo! It's Olympic's purple basil... I can't seem to find a color chart on line so I can show you, but if you are better at it than I go for it. ;o) I think I'm just feeling too impatient to dig.
I need my camp friends for a sing along... Purple light, in the canyon, that's where I, long to beeeeeeee! Okay, it's a purple wall, not purple light. Maybe we can alter the words? :o)
Anyway, painting an old plaster wall, one that has been sloppily painted in the past, was a little bit of a challenge. Over and over I had moments of "oops, did I miss a spot? no, that's an odd place in the plaster... oh, wait, what about here? is that a drip... oh, it's a previous drip that I painted over. I could have sanded it if I'd known, but too late now..." But I wasn't pulling my hair out of anything. In fact, part of me is plotting if I should do other painting, too!
That can wait, though. Right now I'm content to let this dry, get the tape off, and see how it turned out when all is said and done. :o)
It's just occurred to me that somewhere I have (I hope it's not used to have) a set of silk pajamas my father brought back either from Korea or Vietnam. I often have trouble remembering which things he brought from which place... I was so young when he went. I doubt my Mom, who he brought them for, wore them more than once or twice. It was probably a case of silk pajamas not being practical for a mother of two young children... or maybe she wanted to save them for us when we got older. At any rate, when we were old enough, neither my sister nor I were small enough. I know I had them hanging on my wall in my first college apartment. They're just so pretty.
Anyway, I'm thinking if I can find them they might fit me now! They'd be a great Friday outfit for work!
I'm not having luck with my plot of finding such things in the thrift stores. Just one pair of pretty silk pj pants. But, as anyone who thrifts knows, one day they may have nothing like that, and the next someone might donate an entire wardrobe of it. *shrug* It'll happen or it won't.
Have I mentioned I love my purple wall? :o)

| An update of sorts |
[19 Jul 2008|10:58am] |
|
Well, life continues at break neck speed.
- My dad seems to be doing well, he says he feels completely better, but has a follow up dr. appt. next week. Once the dr. gives him the all clear I will feel better.
- Work is more intense as the 3rd Windy City Rubber Ducky Derby draws near. We have sold about 8,000 ducks and our goal is 40,000...by August 8! Anyone wishing to support Special Olympics Illinois by purchasing ducks and having a chance to win some great prizes can visit www.duckrace.com/chicago. :)
- Today is the 40th anniversary of Special Olympics. We are having a black tie gala tonight at the Chicago Hilton. I will be attending as a silent auction monitor, no fun food or drink, but it should be some good people watching. Our not-so-great Governor will be there, along with the political strategist for Obama, Tim Shriver (brother to Maria and CEO of Special Olympics) and other celeb types. I was at work last night until 8pm helping the people who have been planning this event and thus, did none of my own work yesterday at all. Monday will not be a fun day as I try to catch up.
- I had a hair cut earlier this week that didn't come out as I had hoped or requested. I called her the next day to ask her to get me in for a re-cut, she was not very accommodating and so my hair will be so-so for the gala tonight. :( I will be trying a new hairstylest out shortly.
- We visited the college Jen will be attending and she is now registered. We return on August 2 to see her actual room and take measurements. In the mean time she is shopping a bit and packing a bit. Currently, she is in Kansas City with some friends for a weekend trip. She's definitely nervous about going away to college. I'm quite sure once she gets there she will be completely fine and never think of us again...at least until holiday breaks! :)
- My notebook computer completely crashed. It won't even turn on. I am banished to the turtle slow speed of the desktop computer. It is so slow it makes me not want to be online. As a result, I have read 3 books in my 2 weeks without a proper computer.
- I have really been feeling quite blah lateley. I think it is a combination of all the things I mentioned here along with a couple I'm not mentioning. I need a pick me up, hopefully after the duck race at work life will be more meaningful or enjoyable or fun or something.
- Don't want to end on an uneven number or a blah note, so, my happy thought for the day will be the song that is running through my head...yes, it's from Annie and no, I can't stop it! The sun will come out....tomorrow...bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow....there'll be sun...... Now you can sing it with me too! :) LOL

I spoke with Sandra for a couple of minutes today. She slept much of yesterday. Her docs have had her up and toddling around (YAY!), but she is still too wobbly to walk alone. She said her stomach doesn't hurt that badly at all; the worst pain is in her back. She was finally allowed to have a little bit of solid food today, so dinner was some watercress and crackers with cheese. She said the view of the castle is helping.
