I'm so excited, I think my horrid neighbors are packing the motor home and getting ready to leave. Thank you God of everything!!!! They are so mean and so hard to live next to. It is such a challenge to remain civil and loving. I haven't been able to do it and have been feeling pretty guilty and fallible about the whole thing. It'll be so nice not to have them peeping at me, going through my mail, and threatening my dog for six whole months. They take their funky old motor home down to Baja for May and June, (I know they're late in leaving, I have been praying for them to go), then they go to their little shack in Oregon from July through November. They pop back in around December and announce their awful presence with flurries of complaint letters and neighborhood political campaigning.
They never want what everyone else wants, for example, oh I don't know, street lights, and closing down the freeway on ramp and off ramp that allows people to come in, rob our houses, hop back on and head for south central. We once had a hijacked bus come careening off the freeway, followed by dozens of cops and people with scanners, helicopters, and news crews. It had been a hot pursuit all the way from San Diego. We were actually watching it on television, when we were astounded to see the driver choosing the off ramp right by our house. He roared off the freeway, bounced into a few cars on this narrow street, and then smashed into a neighbors house.
We live in a kind of small quiet neighborhood bordered by freeways and major streets, it's closed off by property and the freeway and would be ideal, with only three ways in and out if not for the heavy, dangerous, speedy traffic that comes through along this one busy street, trying to get to the freeway. Caltrans have been trying to close these old freeway access ramps so they can widen the freeway from Sunset and add a carpool lane. We would get a little park out of the space they close, and our children and pets would be infinitely safer. It would lower the incidence of theft. It would be best for everyone concerned, except for a few lazy, elderly, curmudgeons who don't like change, argh. They go away for six months and then come back and act like they run everything. It's so much more than that as well. It's their deception, their invasiveness, their greed and jealousy. For example, their was a neighborhood garden club garden visit thing that just took place. I was told that my garden had been submitted but my jealous neighbor somehow manipulated me out of it. I used to share block captain duties with her until someone appointed another more celebrated neighbor to the job. He didn't want it and offered it back to me. I asked the president of our homeowners association if I could be block captain, she said yes, and told me that she would contact me. The next thing I knew we all got letters in our mailboxes from Martha saying that she had been appointed as block captain. I'm fairly certain she must have told them I had changed my mind. it's this kind of stupid, mundane pettiness, capped by her telling me that I should put our rescue puppy to sleep, that gets me going.
It's that kind of stuff that gets me angry. I try to just ignore it and surrender but the change in my existence here, going from a mellow stress-free, walk around naked outside, kind of life, to a rigid, controlled, complaint ridden lifestyle is too great to ignore. Thus my celebratory mood when they prepare to depart. Shhh don't tell the Dalai Lama but I'm seriously thinking of standing by their driveway and cheering as they drive off. Maybe I should release doves or something.
Okay, I'm off to take the ferrets for a little romp round the patio garden. Wish me luck!
