Here he is, the first photos I've seen so far of my boyfriend, Da Man. I just love this guy. All of these pictures were taken by Dan Dawson.
Letting Go of Fear and Embracing Hope -- that's the plan.
I am just dying being stuck here at home while all of our friends are at Burning Man. Beau is especially upset and depressed. All of our friends had been calling to say good-bye as they made their way to the playa. The first pictures and videos are beginning to trickle out. Here's a great link; this is TV Free Burning Man. They already have two Pod Casts with a good look at the man both during the day and at night, an interview with Larry, just lots of video from the playa.
Our friend Phil has already called us from a working phone booth out somewhere in the middle of the playa. If you want to call and speak to random happy burning folk it might just work, try it, it's (347) 329-3267. He promises to upload pictures and entries soon. I'll link to his journal as soon as it gets going. Otherwise I've been looking at our own Burning Man Live Journal Community for photo and story updates. It's a bit slow at the moment but it'll pick up.Kto-to and Xura, kindly fellow Live Journalers,</a> have uploaded the first pics I've seen so far, although their journals are written in Cyrillic so I don't have a clue as to what they're saying.
Here's what I've turned up so far at flickr. One wonderful person, (Dan Dawson) has been kind enough to upload several hundred really terrific pictures. It looks like Dr. Megavolt is back. I haven't seen him in a couple of years, maybe I don't get out enough when we're out there.
Any of you have any other links? I have to admit I haven't felt well enough to do much hunting around on the Internets, (I'm sorry but this joke just never gets old for me), so I'm sure there's plenty to be found. I'll try to muster the energy to poke around and see what I can Google up in a bit, but after I upload this I have to lay down, I'm too dizzy to do much more tonight.
Oh, I wanted to tell you that one of the Burning Man tribes is going to try to break the world record for the longest Chinese Festival Dragon this year. The current record is 1.89 miles and this was done at the Great Wall of China, they're going to do it with Hula Hoops and fabric and everyone is invited. I would have loved to have been a part of that. I hope they pull it off.
I've been able to get out and do just a little bit more lately than I have in the last couple of months, but not much. I can't believe it's almost been two months since my accident, time really flies when your brain isn't functioning. I can maybe do three errands now, as opposed to two, before I collapse in a weak overheated heap, and have to limp back home and put myself to bed, which is some improvement, I guess.
Saw my new chiropractor again yesterday. I am honestly skeptical and not certain he's helping yet. I'm going to take his X-rays to an orthopedic specialist I'm seeing tomorrow, and he might want to take some more. According to my chiropractor I have all kinds of spine and neck problems and I'm sort of hoping he's wrong. Although after he adjusted my neck the first time, I actually felt a bit better, even though it made the most God-awful sound I have ever heard in my life. I've had my neck adjusted before, so I know how weird and scary it can be, but this was something else, CRACK times twenty for each side. I was telling Scott that if he had done that to someone who had never been adjusted before they might have had a heart attack thinking that he was breaking their neck.
And we have a very temporary new addition to our menagerie; a birdie. I don't know what it is, some kind of brown spotted dove. Our neighbor Betsie called to ask me to come on out and rescue the poor little thing. It was hopping around and can't seem to fly. She, or he, is spending the night in my shower in a nice warm box with seed and water and we'll take her to the vet tomorrow. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with her and she can even step up onto my fingers the way tame birdies do, but she won't fly and we were afraid to leave her outside overnight with all the neighbor cats prowling around. Janet's three cats would have found her for certain. I so hope she'll be well enough so that we can release her and she can lead a normal bird's life. In the meantime it sure is wonderful to have a bird around, we haven't had one in so long, pretty little thing.
I think I will seriously pass out if I don't stop here.
This is my favorite picture so far because this is really what it's all about, and for some reason it reminds me of that effect you get when you look into a mirror through a mirror and see an unending stream of images because really what's happening here is that you are one artist participating by looking at something that another artist chose to share of a photo taken by another artist of an artist painting another artist's work. You might have to be high to get that.
PS: We haven't done anything Burning Man-ish this week yet, but we will. Inspired by something a fellow burner, who is also stuck out here in the "default world" suggested, I think we'll have to make some kind of Burning Man stick figure, light it, and dance around it on Saturday night. Something, not sure what yet...
PPS: If you look behind the cut there's a cute animated picture of a kitty rolling a joint, that our friend Phil sent to us. He said it reminded him of me, but considering that I haven't found any kind of weed that I can smoke or eat that I'm not allergic to, I'm thinking it's a tad more Phil-ish, than Jacqui-ish, but damn if this isn't the cutest little joint rolling kitten I've ever seen;( Collapse )
